Question: How high is Anna Faris? Answer: Very.

Anna Faris upholds her reputation as the go to girl if a socially clueless girlie is required. In 'Smiley Face', Faris plays Jane, a stoner, who makes a seemingly inconsequential decision, while under the influence, which snowballs throughout her very weird day.

Not as broad, or as laugh out loud funny as The House Bunny, it's more of a low key, quirky, indie comedy. It is however compelling in it's oddness with strange situations, characters and storytelling devices thrown in to stir things up.
Faris, of course, own the movie, giving Jane a drug induced innocence, positivety as well as being simultaiously lazy and pro-active.

Bizarre but unquestionably likable.

And the Farisitude just keeps on coming.

Anna Faris proves once again why she is probably THE best comedic actress working today. She's freakin' funny in this film. Stoner Jane is a great movie character. On one hand you almost despise her for doing to herself what she's doing. On the other hand you can't help loving her for her totally innocent, good hearted ineptitude of a mythic scale. And even while so massively stoned and so grubbily pathetic, Faris still makes Jane so damned cute and loveable.

Having said all that I found the film surrounding her to be oddly confusing and fairly average. I have no idea what it's actually about. Is it pro or anti drugs? Does Jane learn anything from her journey to Venice Beach? I don't really think so. Or is it just a silly stoner comedy? Maybe. It probably works best as that.

Without the wonderful Faris I think this would probably have been switched off after five minutes.

Co-incidentally I watched Just Friends last night with Faris and Ryan Reynolds. Anna stole that movie totally. The film was pretty average at best but Anna was awesome as a ghastly Britney Spears/Paris Hilton hybrid. Some funny shit!
